Spring 2023
Director
Joseph Lee
Role
Graphic Designer
Godpsell, put on at Yale's Off-Broadway Theater, is an avant-garde play that explores the tension between divine authority and urban rebellion, weaving a narrative rich in surreal imagery and cultural symbolism to challenge traditional notions of power and identity. Collaborating closely with the director, I developed both a poster and a program that established a bold visual identity for the production. The design featured a vibrant palette of primary colors combined with urban textures such as brick and graffiti, evoking a gritty, dynamic aesthetic. Additionally, the integration of vinyl records—symbolizing rhythmic energy and a nod to musical elements—added a layer of cultural resonance. This cohesive visual strategy not only captured the play's off-Broadway spirit but also enriched its overall theatrical experience by blending modern vibrancy with nostalgic cues and motifs from the produciton.
